He has a posse
"You must have been alive at the same time as Andre the Giant to be served in this establishment."
This was one grim week, celebrity-death-wise.

Všechno nejlepší k narozeninám!
"You must have been born before Vaclav Havel was elected Czech president to be served in this establishment."
Some complexity here, as Havel---national hero and leader of the Velvet Revolution---was earlier elected leader of Czechoslovakia. As of January 1, 1993, however, that country no longer existed, and Havel was elected president of the Czech Republic three weeks and change later.
What? Sorry! I been absent a bit.

The Mechanical Man
"You gotta have drawn breath at the same time as Charlie Gehringer to drink here."
A while ago for some reason---okay, it was when Dustin Pedroia signed his seven-year extension with the Red Sox---I was looking up how many second basemen actually stick at that position very late in their careers. The list is astonishingly short: Rogers Hornsby, Joe Morgan, a handful of other guys, all of whom you've heard of. And there's Gehringer... you really forget how long he was that astonishingly good he was at a very, very hard position to play for long.
Anyway, just me being mawkish about old ballplayers.

Ooh! Here are some upbeat titles: "Hero", "Fearless"..."Alive!"
"You must be older than Alive to be served here."
But not, you know, "served" like the lady in 13E was served. (She was served over some rice they found in storage and boiled in melted snow.)
... and happy birthday, Elizabeth!
